Collins Hill Eagles Black Soar to New Heights with a Second Place Finish at the USSSA 11U World Series.
Collins Hill Eagles Black coached by Chad Adcox(manager), Thornton Hopkins
and Neil Hudson continued their tournament success (three previous
sub-state tourney victories) with a second place finish in the USSSA 11 U
World Series held in Pace Florida.
The Eagles took on teams from Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Texas,
Mississippi and Alabama which comprised a 32 team field of elite 11 U
baseball players.
Collins Hill had a rough start only winning one of their three pool games
which put them in the 26th seed position. When bracket play began the
Eagles came alive with power hitting lead by Derek Eder, Sam Hudson, Crae
LeBlanc, Michael Germano and Tyler Hopkins. Together these players batted
for an average well over 550 pct.
The pitching staff lead by Whitney Leland, Derek Eder, Canyon Slade,
Jordan Adcox, Luke Wilson and Ryan Nelson, not to be out gunned by the
power hitters, also picked up the pace allowing only 3.6 runs per game
before the finals which gave Collins a margin of victory average of over
five runs per contest in bracket play. The Eagles bracket play record was
an outstanding 6 wins and 2 losses.
The Eagles came up short losing to the Gulf Coast Bulldogs in earlier
bracket play and also in the finals, but these losses did not take away
from the outstanding performance of the Collins Hills Eagles 11U Black team.
Tim Jacoby was awarded the MVP for outstanding defensive play during the
tournament and Canyon Slade was the runner up in the Home Plate to Home
Plate speed competition with an elapsed time of 13.97 seconds which was
just .08 seconds off the winning time.
The Collins Hill Eagles team would like to thank the coaches and parents
for the sacrifices they made to enable this team to achieve such great
success.
