Congratulations to RJ Smith of Walnut Grove Elementary and Cameron Shepard of McKendree Elementary for winning our first every writing contest. Children were asked by their teachers to voluntarily write a short essay entitled “Playing Sports Has Its Benefits”.
The essays were collected and judged by the elementary school PE teachers. For their efforts, each boy will receive a free registration for the 2010 football season.
We were very pleased with the response from the two schools and plan on continuing this next year and expanding it to the other schools in the cluster.
In order for your child to begin practicing within the park, a GFL physical form must be completed.
If you do not have a set pediatrician who can perform the physicals or cannot get an appointment in time, we have been in contact with the Sports Medicine South office who will perform the physical evaluation at a cost of $15. They have set aside Wednesday July 14th from 6:00PM until 8:00 or until the physicals are completed. Please have your form completed as much as possible before the appointment. If you are using another Dr. please be aware that the form must be completed, by a MD, DO, or PA as noted on the form.

The Collins Hill 11U Eagles – Green team claimed their second consecutive County Championship on June 11, 2010. Nineteen teams competed this season in the 11U division of the Greater Gwinnett Baseball League (GGBL). The Collins Hill Eagles – Green team finished the GGBL regular season in 1st place, with a league record of 17 wins and 1 loss.
In the County Championship tournament, the 11U teams competed in an 11-day double elimination tournament. The tournament final came down to the #1 seed – Collins Hill versus the #2 seed – Parkview Panthers playing in a best two out of three for the championship. Collins Hill swept the final in two games and went undefeated in the tournament outscoring their opponents 46 – 9 in their six games.
The members of the team are James Civelli, Cameron Edwards, Mark Flores, Monty Horn, Austin Jett, Ryan Jones, Bradley Kallgren, Austin Mancilla, Porter Richards, Nicholas Topoleski and Jon Wyatt. They are managed by Ted Kallgren and coached by Tony Flores, Jimmy Richards and Tom Topoleski.
Dear Parents and Supporters of Collins Hill Athletic Association:
The Gwinnett Football League (GFL) and its 17 participating associations are united to help our youth athletic program continue to be one of the very best, not only in the state of Georgia, but the United States. As a result, the GFL and CHAA are constantly evaluating and scrutinizing all the relevant details to best support the Collins Hill players and their families while looking ahead for long term savings opportunities for our association.
In 2010, Collins Hill Athletic Association enthusiastically expanded to incorporate Lacrosse. As we combine the addition of Lacrosse with the severe drought or acute rainfall of the last 3 to 4 years, the playing facilities at Rock Springs Park have been tremendously affected. Now that Lacrosse and Football share the Rock Springs Park field, the field surface has little time to recover between the seasons. The rising cost of re-sodding a field year after year is not a cost effective solution.
Based upon information that has been provided to the GFL and CHAA, it has been concluded that the transition to artificial turf will not only help solve the field usage problems at Rock Springs Park, but will also have a long term cost savings for the association and our families. Currently, two of our fellow associations are undergoing the conversion from traditional turf to artificial turf. The GFL and Board Members of CHAA are watching this transition and process very carefully in order to determine the current cost savings conclusions.
Please know that we are working with our county commissioners to ensure that they are giving this issue their attention and support.
Best regards,
Melissa Hale
GFL Commissioner

Vigilance Prevents Volunteer VictimizationA public safety message from Major Bart Hulsey, Gwinnett County Police There were just over 3,000 incidents of entering autos, or car break-ins, in unincorporated Gwinnett County between April and December 2009. The Gwinnett County Police Department has worked diligently to curtail this increase of theft and made 112 entering auto arrests during that same time. Once a pattern is identified, GCPD conducts “directed patrol” in that area, which generally results in entering auto crimes dropping in that area and rising in another. In other words, we simply move the criminals around. Our Crime Analysis Unit has studied this specific crime and compiled some startling facts from the period April through December 2009: (more…) |
