SASS Spring Programs Are Back!!

SASS Spring Programs Registration- FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS TRAINING and 3 on
3 BASKETBALL. All sessions/games will be at Collins Hill High School
and/or Creekland Middle School gyms on Monday or Thursday evening and
Saturday mornings. These programs are open to any boy or girl between
age 6 and 18, and runs between March 8th through May 1st. Once we have
an idea of sign-ups we will assign the two locations and times for each
program.

First Registration, for both programs, is 3/8/10 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at
CHHS new gym- walkup only. Afterward, from 7:30 to 8:30 pm, we will have
open gym, do demonstrations, and answer any questions. If unable to make
it for first registration, please email or call us, or attend the first
session/late registration on 3/11 between 6:30 and 8:30 pm at CHHS new
gym.

Skills Training-    Similar to the 6 programs conducted over the last
three years, it will be enhanced and improvements will be recorded, with
analysis furnished upon completion. This program focuses on speed,
agility, and strength training for any sport, while concentrating on
basketball skills. For all age groups from 6 to 18 and genders,
regardless of sport. Parents are welcome to participate with their child
if they care to for no additional cost. This is for those youth needing
the basics/fundamentals, those that want to play at the next level, or
just want to have fun getting in condition- regardless of your sport(s).
Improvement is assured for those that put in the effort. Sessions will
probably be Monday pm and Saturday am, for one hour minimum each date,
probably more. Cost, including fees, insurance, equipment, and coaching
will be no more than $105.00.

3 on 3 Player basketball- Now that we approach the end of winter and
school basketball seasons, it’s time to keep your game going while
having fun. This will be our third 3 on 3 league since last summer, and
probably our best. Participation has been fantastic, with over 90 youth
involved for fall league and 75 in summer league. Due to popular demand
so far, we expect the spring league to be even bigger and better. If you
played the last two seasons, let’s get it going again. If not, then talk
to one of your friends that did and they will tell you how much fun it
was. Each team will consist of 4 to 5 players, with 3 in the game at one
time, and will be monitored by SASS. Adult volunteers are welcome to
help coordinate each team, however, there will be no assigned coaches.
Referees will be used. This is high-speed, constant motion, real action
basketball, with no stalls, and everyone gets involved. There will be at
about 2 games per week, probably on Thursday pm and Saturday am. Cost,
including fees, insurance, equipment and coaching will be no more than
$89.00 per player.

In the event you want to participate in both programs, there will be a
discount and the programs are scheduled at different times so there
would be no conflict. Both programs taken together will be approximately
$160.00. To get a better idea of both programs and what we do, please
look at www.sportsfundamentals.us and email or call us with any
questions. See you at signups on 3/8/10 at CHHS.

Winter Basketball Registration

Registration for the CHAA Winter 2009-2010 Basketball Season begins on Saturday October 10th.  A walk-up registration will be available at Collins Hill Public Library on October 24th from 2-4 PM.  Online registration will be available starting on October 10th, and will run through November 1st.  Please note that a late fee of $20 will apply to registrations beginning on October 26th, so please register early!

Games and practices are held at Elementary and Middle School Gyms in the Collins Hill Cluster, and also at Richards Middle School.  Activities during the week begin after 6 PM, and on Saturdays after 9 AM.  There will typically be two or three activities each week, being a combination of practices and games.

We are offering the following age groups for the Winter season:

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Due to a policy change between Gwinnett County Public Schools and Parks & Recreation, our costs for gym usage have increased substantially.  As a result, we have incurred a $25 increase in registration costs from last year.  We have worked closely with our GCPS representative to minimize the cost increase, but must increase our registration fees to cover the increased cost of gym usage.

The Winter season will cost $155 and will run from November 14th through February 2010.  The season will consist of 11 games, including a single-elimination tournament to complete the season (5-6 age group will play 8 games & no tournament).  Teams will practice 1-2 times per week, and will play 1 or 2 games per week after games begin.

The girl’s leagues will play some inter-association games with other local organizations such as Duluth, Peachtree Ridge, and Dacula.

We will be looking for coaching volunteers in all age groups! If you are a parent interested in being a coach, please click the ‘Volunteer Here’ link on the left hand side of our website and complete an application on or after October 10th.

If your player will need a uniform, please be sure to select the sizes on the registration form.  The cost (Shirt: $25 / Shorts: $15) will be added to your registration.  We will have samples available during player evaluations and a list for you to verify your players’ sizes.

Remembering John Jones

The Collins Hill community was dealt another tragic blow on Monday, December 15th when one of our 11-12 Boys Basketball coaches, John Jones, collapsed just prior to the start of his team’s game at Richards Middle School.  Despite the heroic efforts of several parents and school officials, the medical team was unable to revive him.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 19th from 6 to 8 PM at Gregory B. Levett & Sons, 914 Scenic Highway in Lawrenceville.  The funeral will be held at noon on Saturday December 20th at the Lawrenceville Church of God in Christ, 329 Grayson Highway.

Coach Jones has been a volunteer in our organization for several years, and he will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
