CHAA Lacrosse Information

Summer is over so let’s start thinking lacrosse!  Going into our second year, we have some high expecations for our program and we want you to be part of it.

Skills and Drills clinics will be starting soon.  Our first clinic is scheduled for September 12th.  Keep watching for updates.  These clinics are open to experienced and inexperienced players.  This year we will be gearing our clinics to 1) help those who have experience by further developing their skills with more advanced instruction and 2) those who don’t have experience by exposing them to the game and start their skill development with basic drills.  We have coaches with high school and college level playing experience that can teach your child the proper way to play this great game.  As always, these clinics are free of charge and are open to boys and girls ages 7 – 14 (1st – 8th graders).  Come out and have some fun!

For those who played with us last year, please tell your friends.  We want to improve our program and we need to continue to grow the number of kids in the program to do that.

Support the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta on September 11th

Parents,

How many trophies do you have stored away in your garage or attic?  What about bats and gloves your children have outgrown?

On Saturday September 11th at Rock Springs Park we will be collecting any sports trophies you have stock piled over the years and donating them to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta.  It doesn’t matter the sport.

In addition, we will be collecting any gently used sports equipment you may have as well.

Footballs, baseballs, basketballs, soccer balls, gloves, bats, tennis rackets, hockey sticks, cleats, track shoes.

Please spread the word and help support the BGCMA by donating your trophies and sports equipment. You can visit their web site for more information on needs.

Rock Springs Park Turf Assessment Information

Dear Parents and Supporters of Collins Hill Athletic Association:

The Gwinnett Football League (GFL) and its 17 participating associations are united to help our youth athletic program continue to be one of the very best, not only in the state of Georgia, but the United States.   As a result, the GFL and CHAA are constantly evaluating and scrutinizing all the relevant details to best support the Collins Hill players and their families while looking ahead for long term savings opportunities for our association.

In 2010, Collins Hill Athletic Association enthusiastically expanded to incorporate Lacrosse.   As we combine the addition of Lacrosse with the severe drought or acute rainfall of the last 3 to 4 years, the playing facilities at Rock Springs Park have been tremendously affected.  Now that Lacrosse and Football share the Rock Springs Park field, the field surface has little time to recover between the seasons.   The rising cost of re-sodding a field year after year is not a cost effective solution.

Based upon information that has been provided to the GFL and CHAA, it has been concluded that the transition to artificial turf will not only help solve the field usage problems at Rock Springs Park, but will also have a long term cost savings for the association and our families.  Currently, two of our fellow associations are undergoing the conversion from traditional turf to artificial turf.  The GFL and Board Members of CHAA are watching this transition and process very carefully in order to determine the current cost savings conclusions.

Please know that we are working with our county commissioners to ensure that they are giving this issue their attention and support.

 Best regards,

 Melissa Hale
GFL Commissioner
