Football FAQ

CHAA Football Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need experience to play?
No. CHAA Football offers the opportunity to learn and play for players of all levels. GFL rules provide that teams are equally divided with experienced and beginning players and ensures each player participates substantially in every game. Although fielding competitive teams is one of our goals, CHAA coaches are focused on teaching football fundamentals and teamwork to all players.

Are there any weight limits/requirements for players?
No. Unlike many other youth football leagues, the GFL  currently has no weight requirement. The teams are divided  by the age of the participants only.

How do I register my child for CHAA Football?
You can register your child online at www.chaasports.com

What is the cost to register?

Registration fees for the 2024 season are as follows: March 16th- June 8th rate of $300 (250 + $50 spirit fee ) for 6  year old only.

Registration Fee $325 ($275 + $50 spirit fee) for 7yr old - 8th grade.

There will be a payment plan option available for early registrants.

What is the spirit fee used for?
The spirit fees are distributed to the team moms to assist with team expenses during the season including, but not limited to:  pep rallies, food/snacks, end of year gifts, and banquet.

What equipment do I need to supply for my child?
CHAA will provide the following items to each player:

  • 1 Reversible Jersey
  • 1 pair of game football pants
  • 1 compression shirt
  • 1 pair of socks
  • 1 Embroidered backpack

Generally, players/parents must provide:

  • 1 certified football helmet with hard chin strap (Helmet color Forest Green)
  • 1 set of certified shoulder pads
  • 1 set of low body pads (2 hip pads, 1 tail pad, 2 thigh pads and 2 knee pads)
  • 1 pair of cleats

Any additional practice pants, arm pads or other accessories

These are not always available at major sporting goods stores such as Dicks or Sports Authority unless ordered. Dicks will custom order one for you. Look for a Dick’s/CHAA shopping day. You can go to Going Strong Sports or Titan Sports. Consider purchasing early as the green helmet tends to become harder to find the closer you get to practice.

How many days per week do teams practice?
GFL has made changes for practice prior to school starting. We will send out that information once we have it. When school starts in the fall 6yr old - 8th grade teams practice 3 days per week for 1½   hours per day.

When and where are games held?
All games are played on Saturdays from late August through November. The season consists of 1 Jamboree (or practice game) and 8 regular season games. See Important Dates for   more information. Games are held at Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation facilities or high schools.

Are there any opportunities to coach or otherwise contribute as a parent?
Yes. CHAA operates completely on adult volunteer participation.  If a parent desires to be a head coach, he/she should contact the   Football Director. For those parents who wish to be an assistant   coach or trainer, the registration site will allow you to submit your name.  Head coaches are responsible for choosing their assistant coaches.  Additionally, there are many opportunities for team   moms and other volunteer activities throughout the year.

I have not had a chance to get a physical for my child, when do I need to have the physical turned in?
A physical is needed before a child can participate, to include   evaluations. Physicals will be collected at evaluations.

Can I get a refund once I have registered?
There are very specific circumstances in which refunds can be issued. All refunds must be submitted in writing and will be at the discretion of the CHYAA Executive Board.

Does it really matter where in Gwinnett my child plays football?
The CHAA football program is aligned with the high school   offense and defense, as are many other associations. It has been witnessed many times at the older levels and high school that CHAA players have the competitive edge for positions already knowing the system and drills. Bottom line is we highly encourage children to sign up for the youth associations aligned with their high school they are going to attend.

Football equipment is costly, is there used or donated equipment available from CHAA?
CHAA Football does not typically store or keep used equipment. However, there are sports stores such as Play It Again Sports that has used football equipment at a lower cost than   buying new. Craigslist and Ebay are other options. We may also a swap meet during evaluation dates where people can bring   their used equipment to sell. No guarantees as to what will be   available.

Why do I have to pay $4 to go to a youth football game?
The gate is used to pay the referees, on site medic, and police   officer. All of those personnel are required by the GFL or the   county and are paid based on a rate set by both the GFL and county.
