CHAA Basketball Frequently Asked Questions

Who can play in the CHAA Rec Basketball League?

CHAA Rec Basketball program is open to any child ages 5 through 18 (as of September 1st). You do not have to live in the Collins Hill cluster nor Gwinnet County to participate. There is an additional out of County fee of $90 per player for any child that does not reside in Gwinnett County.

Do I need experience to play?

No, CHAA Basketball offers the opportunity to learn and play for players of all levels.  Our league rules provide that teams are equally divided with experienced and beginning players and ensures that each player participated substantially in every game. CHAA coaches are tasked with teaching fundamentals and teamwork to all players.

How much does it cost this season?

$175 for 6U Coed 

$245.00 8u & up 

(includes new uniform, spirit fee and practice jersey)

How do I register my child?

All players must be registered online. Registration will open in September 2023. All payments online are with credit card (a processing fee does apply).  Please use link below to register:

What are the age groups?

5-6 (6U) Coed

7/8 (8U) Boys and Girls

9/10 (10U) Boys and Girls

11/12 (12U) Boys and girls

13/14 (14U) Boys

13-18 Girls

15-18 Boys

When are evaluations and who must attend?

There are no evaluations for 6u Coed and 15-18 age groups

Evaluations will be held for ages groups 8U through 14U are PENDING. The time is TBD.  Please note that this is not tryout, but all players must attend so their skill set can be assessed fairly.

When are practices, locations, what days and how long are they?

Practice dates are PENDING. Practices are one hour long and once per week. Days may vary depending on the gym times that are available. Practices will be held at a cluster school gyms.

When are games, locations, what days, and how long are they?

Games will begin in early December. Homes games will be played at our cluster school gyms.  Away games will be played at the surrounding Rec program gyms.  Games are typically held on Thursday or Friday evenings and Saturdays.  The games are usually an hour long unless a game goes into overtime.

How many players can be on a team?

Due to the rule that all players must play 2 quarters, the teams are limited to 10 players per team. The minimum per team is 7.

What if I want my child to play up an age group?

It is recommended that the player play within their appropriate age group. We do understand that there may be a player who is more advanced and playing up would be a benefit to their skill set. Please contact the Director on this as is approved on a case by case basis and a player can only play up one age group.

What if my player makes the High school, Middle School or GBL team and I already registered?

If your player makes the teams that are listed above, they can receive refund if they are able to show proof that they made the team. CHAA has a strict refund policy and all refunds will need to be approved by Executive Board.

How can my player make the County All Stars?

A player would need to be nominated for All Stars by their coach in December. Selections will be held in early January.

Are there any opportunities to coach or otherwise contribute as a parent?

Yes. CHAA operated completely on adult volunteer participation and must pass background check. If a parent desires to be a coach, please email chaabasketballdirector@gmail.com
